Vijoo Sadwelkar (1934–1990)

Overview
An artist of quiet invention, Vijoo explored texture relentlessly—improvising with broken glass, tissue, plastic, combs. Her single and double-tiled ceramics often drew from nature: fish, birds, and human (often female) figures.
Vitrum & Practice
Vitrum was part workshop, part family space. Vijoo’s children played nearby as she worked; offcuts became mini-art for little hands.
Selected Works at Vitrum
• Tiles (6" × 6", 8" × 8"), plates (10" dia.), and large tile panels (up to ~30" × 60").
Interesting Facts
• Among the tiles she painted at Vitrum is one showing Ganesha seated on his mother Parvati’s lap—an image that now serves as the logo of her family-run VCW Academy of Fine Arts in Pune.
